Help! I can’t keep my Golden Retriever any longer…
You have a Golden Retriever and for some reason you are unable or unwilling to keep him/her. Maybe you don’t have the time to train a very energetic dog. Maybe someone in your family turned out to be severely allergic. Perhaps your dog needs more medical care than you can afford. Maybe you are moving to someplace you don’t think is suitable for a Golden.
Whatever the reason, we aren′t going to judge you.
We know that Golden Retrievers are not for everyone. A dog that doesn’t “fit” your lifestyle might be the perfect dog for another family.
Our goal is to find the ideal forever home for each of the Goldens in our program. You have our promise that we will do everything we can to make sure your Golden is healthy, happy and loved. We have successfully rehomed nearly 2,500 Goldens since 1986. It’s what we do. It’s our mission. It’s our passion.
If you are considering surrendering your Golden Retriever to SGRR, please fill out and submit the contact form below. You will be contacted by an SGRR intake volunteer as soon as possible within the next 24 hours.
If you have found a stray Golden Retriever and you would like help from SGRR to rehome the dog, please fill out and submit the contact form below as well. You may also call the GoldenLine at 405-749-5700 and leave a voice message, but please be aware that for the fastest response you should complete and submit the contact form below. If possible, please have the stray Golden scanned for a microchip by a local veterinarian, this is the first, best step to take when trying to locate the care takers of a lost dog.
When requesting assistance from SGRR to rehome a Golden, please email a picture of the dog you wish to surrender to firstname.lastname@example.org a picture will be required before any dog may be considered for our rescue program.
When the SGRR intake volunteer contacts you, they will ask you a series of questions about your Golden including its health history and temperament. At this time, we may also be able to offer possible suggestions for helping you keep your loving animal friend. We would love to talk to you about possible training methods and give you some resources in order to help your family.
Once we determine that the dog you wish to relinquish is a Golden Retriever that is eligible for our adoption program, we will provide you with a copy of the appropriate Release Form and make arrangements to meet you as soon as possible to transfer the Golden to our care.
- We will ask you to complete the Release Form and to provide as much information as possible about the Golden. The more information we can get about the Golden, the better we will be able to match the Golden to an approved adoptive family.
- You will be required to sign a Release Form. The Release Form is a legal document that transfers ownership and responsibility for the dog from you to Sooner Golden Retriever Rescue.
- You will also be asked to supply past medical records if available. Please be ready to provide any prescription medications that your Golden is currently taking.
- At the time of surrender, you may make a tax-deductible donation to help defray the veterinary expenses associated with bringing your dog into our adoption program. A donation is not a requirement for relinquishing your Golden to SGRR.
Once you have signed your Golden over to SGRR, you will have no further direct contact with the dog or with the foster home or adopter. However, you may reach out to us at any time and we will be more than happy to tell you how your Golden is doing and to describe his or her adoptive environment. Golden Retrievers are amazingly adaptable and thrive in any environment where they are loved and well cared for.
